STATEMENT

In my work, the garment becomes a representation of a woman's body and of her experience.

nocturnal love songs

“Last night as I lay sleeping
I dreamt O, marvelous error,
that there was a beehive
here inside my heart
and the golden bees
were making white combs
and sweet honey from
all of my failures.”-Machado de Assis

“We all experience what the Portuguese call saudade,
which translates as an inexplicable longing,
an unnamed and enigmatic yearning of the soul,
and it is this feeling that lives
in the realms of imagination and inspiration
and is the breeding ground for the sad song,
for the Love Song. The Love Song is
the light of God, deep down, blasting up
through our wounds.”- Nick Cave

NOCTURNAL LOVE SONGS is an installation about the mysterious power of dreams.

I use vintage wedding dresses and an assemblage of sheet music, dream libretto, alchemical imagery, text and other found ephemera to create a goth/femme environment that seeks to penetrate the mystical, secret and enigmatic nature of the dream world.

Perhaps our dreams are like Love Songs from an unknown player - guiding us to heal our deepest sorrows, to grow and to awaken.

sleeping beauty

“All of you undisturbed cities, haven't you ever longed for the enemy?” - Rilke

THE SLEEPING BEAUTY is a meditation on love. It is an homage to the thorns and raptures, the innocence of first kisses and schoolgirl crushes, the beauty and magnitude of true love, and the wounds of loves' endings. This installation is about bidding farewell to the ghosts of the past, cutting through the thorns that surround a broken heart. It is about a return to feeling after a long stay in loves' winter.

book and panty gallery

“… I'm your ch-ch-ch-ch-ch-ch-cherry-bomb!” - Joan Jett

The playful PANTIES are adorned with a girly/glam rock use of color, glitter and attitude. Collaged imagery of flowers, lips and wedding cakes subvert and question traditional symbols of femininity.

“The world is its own magic.” - Shunryu Suzuki

My CONCERTINA BOOKS (a simple accordion book form) are inspired by dreams, fairy tales, surrealism and mythology. These works explore psychic terrain to uncover the pull of the inner life - and forge a map towards the instinctive, the sensual, the numinous.
